The specialized biodiesel testing required by most standard methods is limited by the range of applicability as defined in the test method.  Once outside this range the test methods can fail to deliver accurate results.  So, modifications of existing methods or new methods altogether are frequently needed to define the variability of unpolished or poorly purified B100 status, mass balance determinations, and impurities in blends.   Moreover, current ASTM methods are often inappropriate for impurity detection and measurement, such as is the case for contaminants that aggravate fuel filter blockage conditions.
