Crude glycerin or glycerol is a byproduct or co-product of biodiesel production, and in its purified form has many potential and existing uses.   As recovered from the biodiesel manufacturing process, it is often very impure and accompanied by several other substances.  These are mainly residuals of incomplete conversion of triglyceride oils by transesterification, impurities in feedstocks, excess alcohol,  reaction products, catalysts, and, yes, unrecovered biodiesel B100 methyl esters.   The purity of the glycerin is of utmost importance to prospective purchasers and users of this byproduct, and this quality can be highly variable.
